What’s Cornerstone Galaxy? And What Happened to EdCast and Saba Cloud?

From CSX and EdCast to Galaxy and beyond. Here’s how it all maps out.

We were at Cornerstone Spark ’25 in Las Vegas and London, catching up with our clients and chatting to many international HR teams at our booth. When we asked which platform they were using, the answers were mixed.

Some said CSX or Saba Cloud. Others mentioned LMS and LXP. A few said, “I think it’s called Learn now?”

If that sounds familiar, here’s a clearer breakdown of what’s changed and what it means for your team.

A Quick Look Back

Cornerstone’s platform has evolved over time through both development and acquisitions. But the company’s story stretches back much earlier.

Cornerstone was founded in 1999 by Adam Miller, along with Perry Wallack and Steven Seymour, under the name CyberU. It started out focused on online corporate training for adults. Over time, the company shifted toward HR software and expanded into learning and talent management. For most of its history, Cornerstone grew organically by adding new features, expanding its client base, and establishing its place in the learning tech landscape.

The growth strategy changed after Clearlake Capital, together with Vector Capital, acquired Cornerstone in August 2021. Since going private again, Cornerstone has focused more on growth through acquisitions, bringing additional platforms and capabilities into its ecosystem.

Founder Adam Miller has moved on to other ventures. He is involved in initiatives like Better Angels, a nonprofit tackling homelessness in Los Angeles, and also supports other projects through 1P.org, together with his wife Staci.

This combination of organic growth, acquisitions, and evolving leadership explains why today’s Cornerstone ecosystem includes a blend of systems, platform names, and technologies.

Here’s a refresher on the legacy platforms that shaped the current ecosystem:

Cornerstone CSX (LMS)
The core learning and talent platform used by many long-time Cornerstone clients.

Saba Cloud (LMS)
Acquired by Cornerstone in 2020. Known for its strong talent tools and global customer base.

EdCast (LXP)
A learning experience platform acquired in 2022. Focused on content curation, skill-building, and discovery.

Each came with strengths. And each had its own branding, technology stack, and way of working.

A Global Footprint

Cornerstone isn’t just rolling out a new platform name. It’s building on a global network of clients, teams, and users who rely on these systems every day.

This is what Cornerstone’s footprint looks like today:

+ customers worldwide

(from global brands to local teams)

+ million users supported

(making Galaxy one of the most widely used talent platforms)

countries using the platform

(wherever your people are, Galaxy is there too)

The New Structure: Cornerstone Galaxy

If you’ve ever felt confused about the different names, components, or platforms, you’re not alone. Galaxy is Cornerstone’s way of simplifying the structure and bringing everything into one connected system.

In 2024, Cornerstone started simplifying platform names. In 2025, they introduced something broader: Cornerstone Galaxy.

Galaxy is now the name of the full platform. It connects learning, talent, skills, HR, and extensibility into one system. The goal is to help organizations build a high-performing workforce, improve workforce agility, and close the workforce readiness gap.

At the core of Galaxy is Cornerstone Galaxy AI. It has now been plugged into more and more parts of the platform, from learning delivery to skills tracking and workforce intelligence. This shall make it easier to manage development, support growth, and guide talent decisions across the employee lifecycle.

Here’s how the platform is structured:

Galaxy Component What It Covers
Cornerstone Learn
Close compliance gaps and upskill your people.
Learning Management, Learning Experience, Extended Enterprise, Immerse (VR learning), Content (learning libraries), Guide (in-app support and onboarding)
Cornerstone Elevate
Foster career mobility and employee growth.
Performance, Succession, Talent Marketplace, Recruiting
Cornerstone Transform
Gain visibility into the skills your people have and need.
Skills Transformation, Skill Passport, Workforce Intelligence, HR
Cornerstone Extend
Stay future-ready with an open ecosystem.
Integrations, extensibility tools, and the Cornerstone Marketplace
Each component supports a different part of the employee lifecycle. Together, they form the full Galaxy platform.

Services and Other Products

Cornerstone also provides Services to help teams unlock the full potential of the platform. These include implementation support, optimization, and guidance for complex rollouts.

In addition, other products like Saba (SBX), SumTotal, and TalentLink remain in active use. Many organizations are running these platforms alongside Galaxy today.

What You Had vs What You Have Now

Still using names like CSX, EdCast, CSOD, or simply Cornerstone OnDemand?

That’s completely fine. Many teams are still actively working in platforms known as Cornerstone CSX, EdCast, or Saba Cloud. You might also see the company referred to as Cornerstone OnDemand in documentation or contracts.

While Cornerstone is rolling out the Galaxy naming to unify and modernise how the platform is structured, the older names are still in use and fully supported. Saying “we’re on CSX” or “we just launched EdCast” is still accurate. These platforms have not disappeared. Galaxy is the platform structure Cornerstone will continue building on. But the legacy names are still part of how many teams work and communicate today.

Here’s how the legacy platforms map to today’s structure:

Legacy Platform Now Part of Details
Cornerstone CSX Learn, Elevate, Transform Learning, performance, recruiting, succession, and Core HR are now split across components
Saba Cloud (SBX) SBX (still in use), Galaxy (future) Still a standalone platform for many clients. Some features are expected to move into Galaxy over time, but this transition requires dedicated planning and is not automatic
EdCast Learn, Elevate LXP, skill-based discovery, and talent marketplace features now live within Learn and Elevate
SkyHive (Skills Passport) Transform Integrated into Galaxy’s skills-related offerings
Immerse (VR Learning) Learn Now part of Galaxy’s immersive learning tools
MyGuide (Digital Adoption) Learn In-app guidance and support now included in the learning layer
You may still hear the old names internally. That is completely normal. Some features may eventually move into Galaxy components like Learn or Elevate, but that shift requires a project. It does not happen automatically. This is part of Cornerstone’s Evolve strategy to support structured, gradual transitions into the Galaxy framework. But if you are building something new, the Galaxy framework is what you will be working with.

What About SBX?

The name SBX refers to what was formerly known as Saba Cloud. It is still in active use by many clients and remains fully supported.

SBX is not just a transitional label. It continues to operate as its own platform, especially in environments that have not migrated to Galaxy. Some features may eventually move into Galaxy components like Learn or Elevate, but that shift requires a project. It does not happen automatically.

If your team is on SBX, there is no immediate change. Galaxy may be part of your future roadmap, but for now, SBX remains as-is.

Client Spotlight:
Electrolux

When Electrolux began rolling out their new LXP using EdCast, one of the biggest challenges was the experience gap. The platform felt completely separate from their existing environment.

We worked closely with their team to close that gap. With a shared header and unified design, employees no longer felt like they were jumping between systems. Instead, it looked and felt like one platform, just with new areas to explore.

This approach made internal communications much easier. It helped with adoption and gave teams a stronger foundation for the next phase of their rollout.

“Instead of launching another platform, it felt like a natural extension of the one our people already knew.”

How We Support Galaxy, Learn, Elevate, Transform, and More

We support teams across all Galaxy components. That includes clients still using legacy platforms like SBX, as well as teams already building new experiences inside Galaxy.

Our focus is always the same. Help teams deliver better employee experiences.
That might mean improving workforce agility, closing skills gaps, or simplifying how learning and talent processes work together.

That might mean:

We also understand that every organisation is at a different stage. Some are transitioning into Galaxy, while others are running mixed environments. We meet you where you are and help you move forward with clarity.
